In the desert regions of Namibia, local populations face food insecurity and limited mobility. Many rely on a foraging lifestyle, and pastors working with our local partner struggle to commute between villages due to the challenging terrain and lack of transportation.
Purpose and Legacy, in partnership with Kalahari New Hope, implemented two key projects to address these challenges: the Namibia Tools Project and the Bicycles Project.
1. Namibia Tools Project:
To encourage and enable local people to transition from a foraging lifestyle to farming, thereby increasing food security. Our partner, Kalahari New Hope, encouraged locals to clear their land, promising tools and seeds as support. We collected and sent garden tools for approximately 50 families. These supplies were sent via container to Namibia. The tools enabled families to plant, water, and reap crops, improving their food security posture.
2. Bicycles Project:
To improve the mobility of pastors and people commuting between villages, Purpose and Legacy sent over 100 bicycles to Namibia. We chose specifically Fat Tire Bicycles because of the sandy dirt roads of Namibia; they provide better traction. Some were received
from Arizona and featured tubeless tires, making them very durable for the harsh conditions.
Missionaries received their own bicycles for personal use. Additionally, each village received an extra bicycle for community sharing, used for tasks like transporting food or other necessities. This was crucial as bicycles were often the only available mode of
transportation on the small, sandy roads.
Through these two projects, Purpose and Legacy, together with Kalahari New Hope have empowered local communities in Namibia by supporting food security initiatives and enhancing mobility for pastors and villagers via durable bicycles. We are proud to have
participated in such practical projects, tailored to the unique environmental challenges of the desert region.
